(SRC)

Sohar Refinery Company is 20% owned by Oman Oil Company and 80% by the Government of Oman represented by the Ministry of Finance.

SRC is being set up in the Wilayat of Sohar as a grass-root refinery, which will receive mixed feedstock of Oman crude oil and atmospheric residue from Oman Refinery Company.

Employing 600 people, the refinery will have a crude unit with a capacity of 116,400 barrels per day and an RFCC unit with a capacity of 75,260 barrels per day.  It will be operating in a maximum olefin mode to maximize propylene production of approximately 340,000 metric tones per year.  Initially, about 10% of the refined products would be sold in the local market with the remainder available for export.  The refinery will start early May 2006 and commercial operation will commence in September 2006.

Oman Polypropylene LLC
(OPP)

Oman Oil Company (60%), with LG International Corporation (20%) and Gulf Investment Corporation (20%) has formed Oman Polypropylene LLC.

OPP will construct, own and operate a Polypropylene Plant at Sohar Industrial Area adjacent to the planned Sohar Refinery Company, where feedstock and utilities are supplied.  The plant will employ 150 people directly and another 50 people indirectly and have a capacity of 340,000 metric tons per annum of polypropylene. It will be capable of producing a range of homo-polymers and random co-polymers.

The EPC contract of the US$ 312 million project was awarded to a consortium of GS E&C and LG International Corp. in May 2004.  Completion of this project is schedule for September 2006.

Sohar Aluminium Company

The Sohar Aluminum Smelter project will use the best available technology to produce high grade aluminium products.

Oman Oil Company (OOC) signed a Shareholders’ Agreement on 23rd February 2005 with the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) and the Alcan Inc. in the development of a proposed 350,000-kilotonne per annum aluminium smelter project and associated power plant in Sohar. In June 2004, Alcan announced that it is committed to a 20 percent stake in the Sohar Aluminium Company L.L.C., with OOC and ADWEA each owning a 40 percent share.

Under a technology transfer agreement, Alcan will provide Sohar with a license and related technical services necessary to implement Alcan’s AP35 Technology. ADWEA will be providing technical services and management support for the power plant.

The project achieved Financial Close on the 11th of December 2005. Construction activity has already started on site.
